In The Footsteps of Van Gogh

‘Sur Le Pont d’ Avignon, on y danse, on y danse,
Sur Le Pont d’ Avignon, on y danse, tous en rond….’Actually if you ever try to dance in a circle on Avignon’s famous truncated Pont Saint Bénézet, an energetic ‘Pase Doble’ would see you in the chilly waters of the Rhone. Ingeniously the bridge was designed to be so narrow that if there was an invading army coming to attack this medieval Papal city, they could only ride two horsemen abreast and could soon be dealt with by some well positioned crossbow men.

James and I have arrived here as a start point for a walking tour in part of Provence which has historical associations with Van Gogh.
